The T68 is a highly sought after and heavily publicised phone, which promises a barage of features, excellent stand by times and supposedly 'trendy' styling. Of course the latter is down to personal taste - my opinion (as with many phones these days unfortunately) is that it looks more like a female handbag accessory for either lipstick and make up or sanitry towels. Why is it impossible to buy a phone that doesn't look like one of my childs toys? Obviously I am in the minority with this opinion. Once I had admitted that my choice of phone had to be regardless of aesthetics I opted for the SonyEriccson T68i. I had seen this phone advertised and had been told by numerous colleagues what a great phone it was, and considering my requirements for a phone are fairly broad, it seemed a good choice. That was until I got it home, charged and then began the long battle with the operating system. Don't get me wrong this phone is easy to use, and the menu system reasonalbly logical. Unfortunately you need to be more than just a little patient, waiting for the phone to perform functions. When you turn the phone on, it is unusable for at least the first couple of minutes, and any key presses all happen simultaneously once the phone decides to (slowly) wake up (although the display looks as if all is ready to go). And it doesn't stop there. I got so fed up with the constant delays and infuriating "please wait" messages that I eventually sold the phone for far less than what I paid. Basically, if you buy your phone as a fashion statement (which seems to be the trend) then go ahead and hand over your hard earned readies for this pretty toy which has GRPS, WAP, E-Mail, SMS, MMS, and more features and games (I thought it was a phone, if I'd wanted a PS2 I'd have bought one) than you could possibly shake a stick at then go for it, but if you want a phone to simply call and recieve calls and text then I strongly suggest to look else where. Mind you it seems no phone companies consider my views sinificant and are willing to sacrifice usability, practicalities, responsiveness and reception, in favour of features such as Java, Games, Bluetooth, IR, colour screens, and polyphonic ringtones (am I the only person who thinks that they sound worse than monophonic 2-bit audio chips used previously?). It seems if you want to call someone then use a pay phone, if you want an all in one PDA, personal lifestyle accessory and toy then get yourself down the 'mobile phone' shop as it seems this is all they sell.

The T68 is a very good phone. If you want a small phone with many features, that looks good and has a pretty decent battery life this could be the one for you. The keys might be a bit small for girls with nails (as my wife moans and this), the phone is a little slow at reacting to key presses, especically when using SMS. Should you have the MCA-20 connected (camera) it takes okay pictures in decent sun light, but it can be slow at saving the images and again when transfering from the camera to the phone, really just a gimmick rather than any real use. I use to have a Nokia 7110, plus a Nokia before that and I thought I would never buy any other make, but after using the T68 for a short while I decided to break the mould, and I'm glad I did the T68 is a great phone that didn't really get the exposure it should have when released. I have now had mine for 9 months and there is still no other phone I'd rather have (although I did get the T68i software upgrade done, so although it's the Grey T68 model, it has the T68i software)
