I waited long for this model from Nokia, I was looking forward to it since it was announced. The 7210, is sure to shock the pants off many who have been eagerly waiting for its release. Well, maybe Iand#8217;m just over-emphasizing things. Thanks to the radical keypad design looks and very-colorful choices for its Xpress-on covers. The list goes onand#8230; but it does eventually stop. Nokia attempts to bring all the much-needed features into this nifty handset - including tri-band compatibility to support most major GSM networks throughout the world, a 4096-color screen providing for a richer user interface and providing compatibility for color-needy applications, polyphonic ring tones support, WAP over GPRS, multimedia messaging support, speakerphone feature and Java MIDlet support. Probably the most noticeable difference with the 7210 is the increased length in comparison to the smaller 8000-series models. The 6510 and 8310 were probably the best-sized handsets in terms of overall dimensions since it provided excellent grip and ergonomics - thanks to its slightly thicker form. With the same mentality in mind, a slightly longer design meant depth could be reduced while at the same time maintaining the same high levels of usability. Not forgetting, of course, is the radical keypad design of the 7210. I must say that looking at the actual product, in this regard, was very different from just seeing pictures! The left and right set of side buttons, and#8220;1,4,7,*and#8221; and and#8220;3,6,9,#and#8221; respectively, seemed to have provided more for the 7210and#8217;s overall aesthetics than what the actual keypad was primarily designed for. Fortunately, while the keypad was quite widely spaced, this did ease usability - but only up to a certain point. As with most Nokia phones, they all share a very similar menu system and user interface. For the 7210, color gives it the ability to display menus in a list of eight different colors, and a set of very colorful menu images have replaced those animating ones on older models. With the longer and higher-resolution screen, this means that more lines of text and graphics can be shown on a single screen. As for menu items, those that have the actual option shown (for example, Language = Automatic) will have two listed on the same screen - as compared to one per screen previously. The 4-way navigational key doesnand#8217;t provide any new ways of driving the menus (itand#8217;s easy enough as it is right now) - but mainly offers the ability to move through long or large messages having a significant amount of text more quickly. Before, you could only scroll left or right to the point in a message that needed changing - which could take forever. On top of possibly using the 7210 on nearly every major GSM network throughout the world, another new feature which can become quite practical when you run out of hands and had forgotten to bring your headset is the handsfree speakerphone. Performing somewhat better than the one on the 7650, a user can enable the speakerphone feature during a call by pressing the right soft key (labeled and#8220;Loudsp.and#8221;), and doing the same to revert back to normal handset mode (when and#8220;Handsetand#8221; is displayed instead). The new design of the stereo headset allows it to be worn around a userand#8217;s neck instead of needing to find a place to actually and#8220;clip onand#8221; the microphone. While using it with the 7210, it gave out very crisp audio whether it was used for either phone conversations or with the phoneand#8217;s FM radio feature. Alike the 6510 and 8310, the FM radio will cut out when a call is made or received. The 7210 support both the traditional, but popular, text messaging (SMS) and new-aged multimedia messaging (MMS) methods. It is also the first Nokia phone - without a built-in digital camera - to support the sending and receiving of MMS messages. Oh, picture messages and mobile chat are still supportedand#8230; donand#8217;t you worry! Two separate sub-menus are provided, under the and#8220;Messagesand#8221; menu, for the different methods of messaging. But both of them share the same messaging interface. When it came to typing messages, accustoming my fingers to the slightly varied keypad design did take more than a couple of messages before getting it right. On first getting your hands on the 7210, you may become a bit fed-up with having to tap the wrong buttons because of their different positioning. But practice does make perfect here! But one little plus with the 7210 is the ability to scroll through the set of special characters (brought up by pressing the star and#8220;*and#8221; key at the SMS screen) on a two-dimensional level by using the 4-way navigational key. But I still prefer to do this with the 2,4,6,8 and 5 keys instead, I love being old fashioned. One of the worries for most people is probably the battery consumption on phones with color displays. On heavy usage, the battery does get drained quite quickly because of this reason plus the required backlighting. On average usage, I was able to gain approximately 3-4 days worth of standby and around 3-4 hours of talk time. If you are using the handsfree speakerphone feature, these times will decrease. Well I would say it is a good phone to have with color and some excellent features but the fact is the if you really want excellent color than you must go for SAMSUNG T100, but in comparison the 7210 is: color + good features + lower price = happy me + happy you + happy pocket. (Happy communication folks) |

The Nokia 7210 looks smart and you can change the fascia to suit your mood. It is a great Phone and very easy to use. You can download new games, logos and pictures. You also have the option to buy a detachable camera, which is great fun for those pictures you dont want to miss. It comes with a radio which is good for when you are traveling and dont want to be loaded down with loads of gadgets. Its light weight and is certainly one of the nicest looking phones around. |
